Championship Patches

Boys CHL & District champion patches are now in.  Please stop by my classroom to pick yours up -- I will pass them out to anyone who has turned in a uniform (we are still missing a few of these and I need them asap!)

NCAA Results

Congratulations to Emily Stites who finished 26th at the NCAA D1 Championship in Louisville on Saturday.  Her 6k PR of 20:05 earned All-America honors!

Fall Sports Awards

As a reminder, Sports Awards are tomorrow (11/13) at 7 pm in the Pendery Center.

Also, if you haven't already done so, please turn in your uniform asap.

State Championship Results

Congratulations to Ben Stites who finished the season with a PR of 16:34 to finish in 38th place on Saturday!

His race concludes a great fall.  Thanks to all of you for your efforts and support.

State Championship - 11/3

This Saturday Ben Stites will compete in the DII State Championship at National Trail Raceway (2650 National Road) in Hebron at 11:45.

This is the third consecutive year Wyoming has been represented at the State Championship!  Come support Ben at the season's final race!

JV Uniforms

With the JV season coming to a very successful conclusion in the District Open (final results posted here), we now need all JV uniforms returned ASAP.

JV runners are encouraged to join us for the trip to Troy this Saturday!

Regional Championships - 10/27

Here is the official schedule for Saturday at Troy:

Bus leaves -- 8:30

DII Boys Race -- 11:45

DII Girls Race -- 2:15


We will run on the same course as the Troy Invitational.  It is a great atmosphere and much of the action can be seen from the levee opposite Troy Memorial Stadium.

District Results

Our teams had a great day at the Southwest District Championships in Mason with both the girls and boys advancing to Troy as full teams!  Full results from all the Mason races are posted on Finish Timing. 

The girls finished 3rd in a 15 team contest that featured 5 particularly strong teams vying for only 4 regional spots.  5 of our 7 girls ran their best times of the year and everyone improved from last week at Sharon Woods.

Later, the boys earned a third consecutive District Championship.  This is the first three-peat in school CC history!  Ben Stites and Ian Goertzen again led the way, and their performances moved them up list on our Individual Records.

Results from the District Open race and a full schedule for next Saturday at Troy will be coming soon.

Team Dinner

Dinner Friday is at the Irvine's house.  Even if CHL was your last race you are still encouraged to attend!

The Enquirer published its final City Coaches Poll on Monday.  Congrats to the boys who are DII/DIII poll champions and the girls who finished the season ranked third.

District Championships - 10/20

The DII Southwest District Championship for varsity runners is this Saturday at Corwin-Nixon Park in Mason (just behind Mason High School).  The course differs from the Mason Invitational course and is much more fan friendly.  The District Board charges a $6 admission fee for adults.

Girls Race -- 1:35

Boys Race -- 2:45

We will leave from school at 11:15

The top 4 teams and top 16 individuals in each race advance to the regional meet in Troy.


UPDATE: District Open races will follow at approximately 3:30 for girls and 4:00 for boys.

CHL Results

Our teams had a very successful day at Sharon Woods yesterday in the CHL Championships.

Our JV girls started things off well with several PRs, including a huge improvement by Senior captain Erin Engelhardt, and the boys followed with a perfect team score of 15!  Tanner "Boise" Anthony won the individual race in 18:42.

The Varsity girls finished third as a team led by Sammy Schwartz (20:47, 1st team all-CHL) and Katie Spray (21:19, 2nd team).  Katherine Irvine and Annie Spray also ran career best times.

Our boys won the team race by nearly 20 points as Ben Stites and Ian Goertzen earned 1st team all-CHL honors and Max Hoffman made 2nd team.  Remington Pool and Chase Guggenheim also contributed personal bests.

So many other runners had great races on a beautiful morning at Sharon Woods.  I hope to have final details soon about the District Open race.  Finally, I want to thank all the parents who volunteered to help and made the day so great!

CHL Fall Clinic

Randy Cox will be discussing training concepts at Northminster Church this Sunday at 2.  It will be a nice opportunity to focus on the postseason for our varsity runners and to get winter ideas for jv runners.  Plus it's right in our backyard and free!

CHL Course Marshals

We are in desperate need of several more course marshals for the CHL Championship on Saturday.  Please email me if you can help.  We are responsible for the course once every eight years so I can guarantee you won't have to serve again anytime soon!

St. Xavier Invitational Results

Full results from Saturday's races at St. X are available at GHG Timing.

In the girls race we finished 9th in a field of 19 teams.  Our boys finished 1st over 23 competitors.  On the day we had over 20 runners post PR times!

Practice - 10/3

Although we have early dismissal on Wednesday, practice is at the normal time (3:15).  We will practice at WWPC. 

CHL Volunteers Needed

As the designated host school for this year's CHL Championships we are in charge of providing course marshals.  If you are interested in helping for the high school, middle school, or both races please send me an email.  I am meeting with Bill Bretz, the course supervisor, on Tuesday, and will get more information then.

District Championships Update

The District race on 10/20 officially has been moved to Mason.  A race schedule will be updated soon.  Although this is the same location as the Mason Invitational, the course used in previous years for the District Open race will be used, not the Mason Invitational course.  This means no straw bales and no creek crossing as the course is basically 2.5 loops around the top of Corwin-Nixon Park.

St. X Invitational - 9/29

The course is very fan friendly.  You can see most of the action from the top of the levee overlooking the flood plain where the race starts.

Eaton Invitational Results

Dozens of our runners took advantage of the best racing conditions of the season and posted season best times at Eaton on Saturday morning.  The girls team took 5th out of 22 teams and the boys team followed up with a 2nd place finish.  Full results are available on the Eaton Cross Country website.

If you access our boys individual records you will see two new additions to the top 20.  Ben Stites entered the list and Ian Goertzen jumped up five places!

Also, congratulations to the jv boys on the finest team average time (19:28) I can find in recent school open race history.  This mark has only been bested at the post-season CHL championships.

Eaton Invitational - 9/15

Saturday's schedule for the 42nd annual Eaton Invitational @ Fort St. Clair State Park:

Parents: free parking is available @ Eaton High School, and they will have a bus shuttle.  It is about 1/4 mile from the park so you can also walk if you would like.  Limited handicapped parking is available in the park if needed.  Fort. St. Clair Park is one of the season's best venues so we hope you can make the trip to support the team!

Greenon 2 Mile Results

Yesterday, our teams had a great trip to John Bryan State Park and Young's Jersey Dairy on a beautiful afternoon.

The girls raced first, finishing 5th in a strong field.  Katie Spray led the way in 11th place overall, followed closely by Sammy Schwartz, Annie Spray, Katherine Irvine, and Cynthia Reinecke.

Ian Goertzen and Ben Stites swept the top spots in the boys race as the team won the invitational.  Nate Johnson and Remington Pool also had top 10 finishes.

This Friday our team dinner is @ the Harmon's (245 Compton Ridge Dr.).  If the weather is warm bring your suit and towel to swim!

Mason Invitational Results

Our boys and girls teams performed well on Saturday finishing 4th and 5th, respectively, in the 20+ team Section II field at Mason.  Full results are available at FinishTiming and Kevin Goheen of the Enquirer includes some pictures of the racing conditions in his article.

Greenon 2 Mile Race - 9/11

On Tuesday we will compete in the Greenon 2 Mile Invitational (formerly the Indian Valley Redskin Run) @ John Bryan State Park (3790 State Rt. 370) in Yellow Springs.  All girls run in the 4:30 race and all boys run in the 5:00 race.

We will be dismissed from school @ 1:45 -- check with your 7th bell teacher on Monday to get any work you will miss.

After the races we are heading to Young's Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs for dinner and ice cream.  Please remember to bring money for food!  We should be back around 8, so bring your books for the bus ride home to work on homework.

Greenville Treaty City Invitational Schedule

This Saturday morning we will run at City Park in Greenville.  Some parking is available around the park on E. Park Dr., but it is limited.  There is additional space a couple blocks away at the high school (100 Green Wave Way, Greenville, OH).  Here is our race schedule:

A couple other notes from Saturday's performances:

Over 85% of our returning runners ran faster times than opening weekend on the same course last year, and they did so under significantly warmer conditions.

A special congratulations to Tom Dickson.  Tom is headed to Beijing for the year and had his only race of the season last night.  In his first varsity race he ran a PR by over 90 seconds!

Super Booster Saturday - Please be at school by 945 am.  If any parents are interested in driving and have not contacted Tim or Christine Marty, please do so soon.

Team Pictures - Our pictures are scheduled for 230 pm.  I will have picture forms for everyone at practice Wednesday morning.

Time Trial - Finally, our big event for the day on our 3k course @ Glenwood Gardens, 7 pm.  Results will set the varsity rosters for opening night @ Centerville.

Practice Tuesday morning will be at the WWPC trail off the Lakeridge Rd. / McKelvey Rd. park entrance.  If you are new to the team and haven't been there, easy directions from Springfield Pike are:

 -- North/Right when it stops at Leacrest Rd.,
 -- West/Left on Lakeridge and the entrance is on your right. 

Please let me know if anyone needs transportation to practice.  We will begin at 9!

Alumni Race

In our first Alumni 3k Race @ Glenwood Gardens the current Wyoming teams swept both the girls and boys contests on a perfect morning for racing.

Monica Fisher (Class of '09) won the girls run in 12:34, but sophomore Katie Spray paced a pack of current Cowboys across the line in 12:36 leading to a 22-39 victory.

In the boys race, Spike Knickel (Class of '08) finished in 9:51, establishing our course record.  Sophomore Ben Stites followed close behind at 9:56, and the High School team edged out the veterans 25-30.

Alumni Race - 8/11

The Alumni Race is this Saturday morning at Glenwood Gardens at 9am.  Our current teams will challenge past runners in boys and girls 3k races.  After the races we will spend time together as a group enjoying bagels, fruit, etc.  Arrive early so you can warm up prior to the action!
