Year End Reminders

We still have a few uniforms that haven't been returned.  If you have one please bring it in asap so that your name doesn't get turned in for a report card hold and replacement fine.

Also, if you have not completed a season review sheet from awards night, those are very helpful for the coaches to reflect on the season and make changes for the future so please fill one out if you can.  I have more copies in my room if needed.

Last, Randy "The Wizard" Cox is holding some offseason training runs for runners throughout the city.  These will be on saturday morning throughout the winter.  This weekend he will be at the Winton Woods Parcours at 8am.  Everyone is welcome to attend!

State Results

The boys team capped an amazing fall with team and individual record-breaking performances on their way to a 4th place finish in Saturday's state meet at National Trail Raceway!  This was the best team performance in school history, and Ben Stites was the highest-placing individual in program history, finishing in 6th place. The team climbed from 13th at the mile mark (309 points) to 12th at mile 2 (220 points) all the way to 4th at the finish with 184 points.  In all, our athletes combined to pass 190 team and individual runners between mile 1 and the 5k finish line.

Full results, including mile splits and finish line videos, are available at Finish Timing.

Congratulations to everyone on our boys and girls teams for an incredibly successful season!

Regional Results

Our runners had a fantastic day at the Troy Regional as the girls had a top 10 showing and the boys qualified for their second trip to state in the past 3 seasons!

Terra Forsythe and Katie Spray highlighted the girls race as they both moved into the top 15 on the school's all performance list.  You can see the updated times on the individual records list.  Monica Unzueta and Madeleine Johnson also added career best marks as the girls finished the season with back-to-back exceptional performances at the District and Regional meets.

Led by a top 5 finish from Junior Ben Stites, the boys will return to the State Championships at National Trail Raceway next Saturday.  Tanner Anthony entered the Wyoming boys all-time top 20, leading our tightly packed 2-4 group with Max Hoffman and Ian Goertzen.  Evan Cramer, Cullen O'Brien, and Jonah Engelhardt completed our scoring.  Just over 30 points separated the top 4 teams who will all move on to Columbus from a field at Troy that included 7 teams rated in the state top 20.

Check out full results at Finish Timing.

District Results

We had two fantastic performances yesterday in the wind, rain, and mud at Voice of America Park as both the boys and girls claimed district championships.  This was the second district title sweep in school history.  You can view the full results at Finish Timing.

The boys raced first and placed all 7 runners in the top 15, easily earning a fourth consecutive district championship with a new DII district record low score of 19 (breaking our own 2011 scoring mark of 22).  Ben Stites took individual honors, followed by runner-up Ian Goertzen.

Later, the girls knocked off #1 seed McNicholas to also take the gold trophy.  The girls had their best race of the season on the biggest stage.  Terra Forsythe, Katie Spray, Whitley Elsass, and Margaret Manley all finished in the top 10, and our 5-7 runners provided a key advantage, displacing the final McNicholas scorers.

Congratulations to all our athletes on a fine day!

We need 1 volunteer to help at the finish line of next week's CHL Championship at Sharon Woods.  Volunteers could also split the duty so they could watch some of the races.  Also, Deer Park is in charge of this year's meet as the host and so far they have not come up with the necessary number of volunteers to serve as course marshals.  If anyone is interested in helping with either of these positions please email me.

Alumni Race Results

Thanks to all the alumni who came out and made this morning's time trial a great event!  While most of our grads who participated ran on teams I coached, it was particularly fun to have Dana Irvine (WHS '82) on the course today.  He is a great example of embracing the fun of a running lifestyle that our team hopes to promote among all our runners beyond graduation.

In our opening 3k race the boys high school teams defeated the alums 17-43.  Junior Ben Stites led the pack, shattering Spike Knickel's course record in a time of 9:47.

Next, the girls took to the trail, and our current team won by a 23-47 margin.  Junior Katie Spray finished first in 12:16.

Schedule Update -- Week of 4/1

The visitation for Chris Miller will be held this Wednesday evening in the Pendery Auditorium.  Mrs. Miller was a dear friend and strong supporter of Wyoming running.  She served as a mentor for many of our athletes and I have received outpourings of support from numerous graduated Wyoming runners.  In an effort to make sure all who wish can attend the visitation, our coaching staff has decided to postpone Wednesday's track meet.  At this time I have no details on a possible rescheduled date.  We plan to practice Wednesday at our regular time after school.

We will go forward with our team dinner on Tuesday at 5pm in the cafeteria.  Although it won't immediately precede a meet, it is a great opportunity for our team to share a meal together and support one another during a difficult time.

I will provide more details soon on this weekend's Coaches Classic at Lockland.

Gamble Montessori Dual -- 4/3

We will open the season @ WHS on Wednesday afternoon.  The meet begins @ 4:30 and we could still use volunteer help from parents.

Enjoy your week off from classes!

Volunteers Needed on 4/3!

Monday, 4/15 -- Spray, Johnson, Guggenheim
Friday, 4/26 -- Bunger, Behrman, Waite, Philipsen

Track Apparel Update

We have 4 team clothing options available for this spring:
  • Short-sleeve T ($12)
  • Hooded Sweatshirt ($20)
  • Long-sleeve Nike Dri-Fit ($22)
  • 1/4 zip tech-fleece ($32)
Each has the same logo (as shown below and in my earlier post from 1/31 in more detail) on a white, grey, or black shirt, except for the fleece which is only available in grey or black.  The outside of the fleece is a moisture-wicking material and it is a slightly loose fit.  I will have a fleece sample available in my room soon for you to check out.

All items are available for order from 3/4 - 3/13 and a portion of every sale is donated back to our team.  You will be able to order at bsnsports.com by clicking on "My Team Shop" and using the access code "cowboy2PF".
