Regional Results

In a field featuring 5 of the state's top 10 ranked teams, our boys ran a strong and strategic race finishing 4th at the Troy Regional and advanced to the state championship.  This is our 3rd team trip to state in the past 4 seasons!  Seniors Ben Stites (4th) and Max Hoffman (14th) finished among the top 16 individuals and won places on the awards podium.  Evan Cramer ran one of the finest races of his career, Tanner Anthony followed close behind, and Cullen O'Brien completed the team scoring.  Jonah Engelhardt and Adam Frankel will join them at this week's state competition.  Our score of 111 won a comfortable 60-point margin over 5th place Valley View and was only 20 points out of 2nd place.

The girls field was equally difficult as 6 of Ohio's top 12 teams, and a total of 8 ranked schools, competed in the 16-team field.  Our girls earned 7th, tying the best WHS finish since 2001.  Terra Fortsythe, Katie Spray, and Whitley Elsass all had top 40 finishes.  The girls finish the season as CHL, District, and Enquirer DII City Poll Champions!  Moreover, a number of our top runners will return next fall hoping to build on this season's success.

District Results

Our runners built off last week's impressive performances at CHL for the most successful day at the District Championships in school history.  The boys and girls swept both the individual and team titles at Voice of America Park in West Chester.

In the girls race, our lead pack of Katie Spray, Terra Forsythe, and Whitley Elsass worked together and patiently moved up to spots 2-4 in the second mile.  Katie closed a large gap on the leader and then pulled away in the final 400 for the victory.  Her time of 19:52 moves up to 5th in the WHS record book and was her first sub-20 5k.  Terra and Whitley also posted season-best times to finish 3rd and 4th.  Danielle McKee came in 8th and Lily Parker, with a season best by 30 seconds, 12th as both earned places on the podium.  Katherine Irvine ran her best time as well, and was accompanied across the finish line by Emily Wood in a near tie .  The girls scored 28 points for a 46 point win over runners-up Indian Hill.

Ben Stites improved his own school record with the only sub-16 5k race in Cowboys history.  Ben won his second SW District championship while working with fellow senior Max Hoffman to break away from the field in the first half of the race.  Max's 16:11 (the #2 time ever for a Wyoming runner!) earned him 2nd place.  Evan Cramer, Tanner Anthony, and Cullen O'Brien all ran season-best times, finishing in places 5,6, and 9.  Evan moved into the WHS Top 20 as he improved to 17:02.  The boys posted only 23 points in their win.

Official results are available on FinishTiming.

Due to yesterday's heavy rain, the SW District has closed the course at VOA until Saturday.  Our varsity practice planned for VOA this afternoon will instead be at WWPC.

The District Open races are tomorrow at Lakota Plains Jr. High at 5 and 5:30.  We will have a bus after school for anyone who wants to compete.

Finally, the District Championship at VOA is Saturday afternoon.  Our girls run at 12:30 followed by the boys at 1:35.  This is the same course, located at the north end of the park, from last year's District races.  For a course map click here.

CHL Results

We had an incredible day of racing at Sharon Woods as our runners swept all 4 CHL races!

The JV girls started the morning off by taking 4 of the top 5 places, led by individual winner Katherine Irvine's season best 21:59, on their way to a winning score of 16.  The JV boys fell behind Mariemont early, but seized control in miles 2 and 3 to post a winning score of 24, beating the Warriors by 9 points.  Thomas Harmon won the race in 18:34, and our top 9 JV boys all finished under 20:00.

The Varsity girls race featured 6 teams in the top 10 of the Cincinnati Enquirer DII/III Coaches Poll.  Our team combined for their strongest performance of the season, scoring 36 and easily outdistancing 2nd-place Madeira's 73.  Katie Spray finished second with a career-best time of 20:21, and Whitley Elsass and Terra Forsythe followed close behind in 3rd and 5th.  All 3 earned 1st-Team All-CHL honors.  Danielle McKee received 2nd-Team All-League for her 8th place performance.  Emily Wood (who set a new PR by over 100 seconds!), Lily Parker, and Isabella Renggli all finished in front of the 5th scorer of every other team.  4 Wyoming girls ran under 21 minutes at the CHL Championship for the first time since the league meet moved to Sharon Woods.  Also, Katie and Whitley again moved up the individual all-time WHS Top 20 list.  Check out the record page as 3 current runners now hold times among the 15 best.

Our "Men of Autumn" finished off the day with a commanding victory, posting a 34 well ahead of Taylor's 81.  This is the third consecutive CHL title for the boys.  Senior Ben Stites won his 2nd individual championship, earning CHL Runner of the Year honors, with a meet and course record 16:25.  Max Hoffman tied the previous course record of 16:33, finishing second. He continues his climb up the WHS rankings, moving into 5th.  Tanner Anthony and Cullen O'Brien posted season bests and both received 2nd-Team CHL medals.  Evan Cramer rounded out the scoring, finishing 1 spot off the All-CHL team as he set a PR of 17:24, and Jonah Engelhardt and Adam Frankel were our 6 and 7 runners.  The boys ran an all-time CHL best scoring average of 17:01.

Congratulations to everyone on a tremendous day that featured more than 30 season-best performances!  Pictures will follow soon...
